THE
AREA
British character and West Indian charm coexist on the island of Antigua.
Historic harbors with well-preserved 18th-century buildings are reminders
of the island's colonial days, when ships of the British navy docked
here. Today, Antigua is a well-known sailing center, and its Sail Week
(held each year in April) is not to be missed. With numerous sandy beaches,
the island offers ideal conditions for all watersports. As for nightlife,
there are plenty of choices among restaurants specializing in international
as well as West Indian cuisine and clubs featuring live local music.
