Bermuda is a semi-tropical outpost of the
British Commonwealth, an island of pink sand beaches, shimmering blue
seas -- and cricket and afternoon tea. Tranquil and a little formal,
this friendly island reflects the British traditions of its colonial
heritage. Best known for its challenging golf courses and dozens of
tennis courts, Bermuda also offers excellent scuba diving -- you might
even spy a centuries-old shipwreck amidst the coral reefs that ring
the island. You can also go horseback riding, tour some of the old colonial
villages by bicycle or scooter (rentals are available), or sample the
local pubs and restaurants in the bustling main town of Hamilton. A
reminder: since Bermuda is set at the latitude of the Carolinas, summer
(not winter as in the Caribbean) is the peak season for visitors. |
