THE AREA
A small corner of France in the Caribbean, Guadeloupe offers lively, cosmopolitan resorts as well as tranquil island beauty. The island has a distinctive butterfly shape, with gorgeous white sand beaches on the eastern side. On the western half of the island is a national park, where hiking trails wind through the lush green rainforest, past waterfalls and along the slopes of a 4000-foot volcano. The main port is Pointe-á-Pitre, an attractive town with a great variety of boutiques, sidewalk cafés, and restaurants featuring French and Creole cuisine -- many set in renovated colonial-era buildings.

THE PROPERTIES
The Dock Villas are located at St. Felix, just seven miles east of Pointe-á-Pitre, and are something of a rarity on Guadeloupe (where apartment buildings are more common). Two studios, a one-bedroom bungalow and a three-bedroom villa share this small, nicely landscaped estate, which offers a swimming pool for the use of all guests. its is a short drive to the local beaches, and 10 minutes to the excellent beach at Club Med, which is open to all. The friendly owners live in another villa on the property and can suggest the best things to see and do on the island. Each property features attractive, colonial-style architecture and comfortable furnishings, and the studios and villa enjoy partial sea views.

INTERIORS
Studios: air-conditioned living/dining/sleeping area (w/double bed), bathroom, and fully equipped kitchenette.

Bungalow: loft sleeping area (w/double bed), bathroom, living/dining area, and fully equipped kitchenette.

Villa: 3 air-conditioned bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, living room, terrace dining area, and fully equipped kitchen.

All are simply but comfortably furnished in island style and each offers TV, phone, and barbecue. A washer and dryer are available
