THE AREA
In colonial times, Antigua was a leading city in Spanish Central America. Due to Guatemala's historic preservation policies, this former capital city of Guatemala has been left in its colonial-era splendor. Churches and public buildings that were damaged by earthquakes centuries ago remain as picturesque ruins. This is an enchanting city of narrow stone streets, fascinating ruins, and wonderfully restored villas (required by law to be rebuilt only with original materials). Antigua offers excellent restaurants, and many markets featuring the crafts of the Guatemala Indians, who are descendants of the Maya.

The Casa San Sebastian is located in the northwest part of Antigua, within easy walking distance of any part of the city. Built in 1582 as a rectory for a church (whose ruins still stand across the street), the house has been beautifully renovated, incorporating modern comforts while preserving original details such as high ceilings and fireplaces. The house features a central courtyard, several gardens, and views of the mountains. A fine collection of art, antiques and pre-Columbian artifacts completes the Spanish colonial decor. There is a full staff to provide daily breakfast and lunch and to look after you during your stay.

The villa comprises 4 bedrooms (3 double, 1 twin), 3 1/2 bathrooms, 2 living rooms, dining room, breakfast room and fully equipped kitchen. A sofabed is available. The villa is very attractively furnished in Spanish colonial style, and offers a dishwasher, washer/dryer, stereo and cable TV.
