THE AREA
The Dordogne is a revelation. This agricultural region rich in history and pastoral beauty still retains quiet charms that are only a distant memory for some of the busier resort areas in other parts of France. Located about fifty miles inland from Bordeaux, the Dordogne, which takes its name from the serene river that runs through it, captivates visitors with picturesque ancient villages and castles that cling to steep hilltops or dramatic bluffs. Domme and Monpazier are two of the most enchanting of the bastides, or fortified towns. These medieval towns often look out on idyllic valleys that contain the vineyards that produce the area's fine red wines. Precious and tasty truffles are another local delicacy. The Dordogne also offers a fascinating look at prehistoric paintings in such famous caves as Lascaux and Les Eyzies.

THE PROPERTIES
Our Dordogne properties range from converted mills to the most elegant of chateaux. While providing modern amenities, most attempt to retain the character of centuries past with such features as exposed beamed ceilings or terracotta floors or a spiral stone staircase. Scattered throughout the area, these properties make a lovely base for exploring -- from the charming market town of Sarlat to Rocamadour, a village built directly onto rock cliffs, to delightful Brantome to the north. The typical cottage or farmhouse offers two to seven bedrooms. Many of the farmhouses and villas have their own swimming pool, as well as dramatic views or expansive gardens and terraces. You backyard could include a pond or large park! A few feature tennis courts.

INTERIORS
These properties typically include two to seven bedrooms, up to six bathrooms, a living/dining room and fully-equipped kitchen. Furnishings range from simple to luxurious and may feature antiques and fine art. Amenities usually include most of the following: television, radio, washer, dryer and dishwasher.
