In the south of France lies the region of Provence, a land of ancient
hilltop villages, tranquil vineyards, and air scented by fragrant lavender
and herbs. East of Avignon lies the Lubéron Valley, much loved
by French artists and now made famous by the book A
Year in Provence.
Set in the heart of the Lubéron, five minutes from the center of
Gordes (considered one of the most beautiful villages in Provence) is
Villa Les Truffiers. The villa offers an ideal base for day trips throughout
the region-it is less than an hour's drive from the historic cities
of Arles, Avignon, and Aix-en-Provence. It is also just an hour to the
Mediterranean and the fishing village of Cassis, near Marseille.
Built of local stone, Villa Les Truffiers is surrounded by over an acre
of beautifully landscaped gardens, oak trees and olive groves. Its decor
is rustic yet extremely comfortable, with terra cotta floors, print
fabrics and antiques creating a warm, welcoming feel. The villa features
a large pool and terrace, which can be floodlit for nighttime use, and
there is a large covered terrace for outdoor dining. As a convenience,
the owner's wine cellar is available to guests for a reasonable charge.
Also on the property is a "borie," a 19th-century limestone
farm building that could double as a summer guest room for two. The
villa faces south, and enjoys uninterrupted panoramic views of the Lubéron
Valley and the Chateau at Gordes.
