THE AREA
The Cotswolds villages are famous the world over for their picturesques
tone architecture and their charming, unusual names. Chipping Campden,
Lower Slaughter, Broadway, and Stow-on-the-Wold are just a few of the
dozens of historic villages and towns scattered throughout this part
of central England, two hours west of London. The region is defined
by the cotswolds hills, which run along one side of the River Severn.
the rolling hills and valleys create an idyllic pastoral landscape dotted
with farms, castles, and country churches. Market towns such as Cirencester
and Burford draw visitors with their antique shops, art galleries, and
popular tea shops and pubs. Wherever you stay, you will be an hour or
less from Stratford-upn-Avon (Shakespeare's birthplace and great for
theatre), historic Bath (with its Roman ruins and elegand Regency architecture),
and the university town of Oxford. Blenheim Palace, Warwick Castle,
and other stately homes and gardens are also within easy reach.
THE PROPERTIES
Our Cotswolds properties are located throughout the region, in villages,
on working farms, or in open countryside. Choose from converted barns
or traditional cottages, lodges, or farmhouses, built of beautiful golden
Cotswolds stone. A few larger manor houses are available, as well. The
typical property dates back to the 18th or 19th century and preserves
original details such as low, beamed ceilings and open fireplaces. At
the same time, you will find all modern comforts and conveniences; many
of these properties are very well equipped indeed, with dishwasher,
TV/VCR, and more. A pretty garden terrace, and country views complete
the peaceful setting. A few properties offer access to a pool and tennis
court. In your immediate neighborhood, you will find a village or two
with shops and local pubs, and opportunities for walking, horseback
riding, fishing, golf, and other sports. This is only an introduction
to our Cotswold cottages. Please contact us for flyers describing specific
properties.
