THE AREA
The North of England includes some of the most beautiful places in Britain-the romantic Lake District, and the more remote and rugged Yorkshire Moors and Dales. You might recognize some locations from a favorite book or poem, because many famous authors have lived here and written about their favorite places. The Lake District offers a concentration of beautiful lakes, including Windermere, Grasmere, Keswick and Ullswater. The poet Wordsworth's cottage is near Grasmere, and Beatrix Potter, of Peter Rabbit fame, made her home in the Lake District too. This part of England is a favorite destination for hill walks, from easy to challenging. East of the Lake District are the Yorkshire Dales, rolling hills and valleys dotted with small market towns and villages, including Haworth, where the Brontė sisters lived. Farther to the east lie the Yorkshire Moors, the setting for James Herriot's tales of life as a country vet. And south of the dales and moors stands the ancient city of York, with its spectacular cathedral, the Minster, and its fascinating Roman and Viking past.

THE PROPERTIES
We offer properties throughout the North of England, from the Yorkshire coast (including Scarborough and Whitby) to the moors and dales and the Lake District. Old stone cottages, farmhouses, and attractively converted barns and coach houses are typical here. Many homes are in the countryside, others are in small towns or villages, within walking distance of local shops and pubs. A few properties offer a private or shared pool. We also feature apartments right in the City of York, perfect for seeing the city yet still an easy drive from the moors and dales. Our properties in the North of England tend to be comfortably furnished in country style, and some are beautifully decorated in keeping with the historic character of the property. INTERIORS
Houses include 3-6 or more bedrooms, 3 or more bathrooms, living room, dining area or dining room, and fully equipped kitchen. Furnishings and decor vary according to the individual owners; many homes are equipped with dishwasher, washing machine, and other amenities.
