When travellers
think of the Greek islands, Mykonos, Santorini, Crete, and Rhodes are
probably the first to come to mind. But there is more to Greece than
merely the best-known (and usually the most expensive or crowded) islands.
If you go just a little off the beaten path, you will find a wide range
of enticing destinations.
In the
Cyclades,
the Central Aegean
group that includes Mykonos and Santorini, you will also find Andros,
where many wealthy Athenians maintain villas, and tiny Amorgos, a genuine
hideaway. Also in the Cyclades: Sifnos, Siros, Naxos, and Paros (perhaps
not "quiet" but a great alternative to Mykonos).
The Dodecanese,
in the Southeast
Aegean off the coast of Turkey and dominated by Rhodes, also includes
tranquil Patmos and the sponge divers' islands of Symi, Kos, and Halki.
The
Northeast Aegean
is relatively far
from Athens, though quite accessible. In this area you will find Lesvos,
home of the ancient poet Sappho, and Samos, just 2 miles off the Turkish
coast.
Still in
the northeast but closer to Athens, the Sporades
include Skopelos,
which offers beautiful beaches and pine forests like those of its better-known
neighbor, Skiathos.
The
Saronic Islands
include
Poros, Spetses, and the artists' colony of Hydra; although these islands
are only an hour south of Athens by ferry, fewer overseas visitors find
their way here.
West of
mainland Greece
and south of Corfu lie Paxos and Lefkada, while just a bit further south
are Cephalonia and Zakynthos, larger islands with lovely towns and beaches.
We offer
properties throughout these Greek islands, in all shapes and sizes,
including apartments, cottages, villas, and one-of-a-kind homes like
converted windmills. Nearly all of our properties are on or near the
coast, of course, within easy reach of beaches and watersports. On these
less travelled islands, you may not find the extensive nightlife or
resort facilities of an island like Mykonos, but you will enjoy many
other rewards -- including secluded beaches and all the natural beauty
the Greek islands are famous for.
If you
do not see a particular island mentioned on this flyer, just ask; we
may offer one or two properties there. This
is only an introduction to our properties on the less well-known Greek
islands. Please contact us for flyers describing specific villas and
apartments.
INTERIORS
Properties range from studio apartments to villas. The typical property
includes 1-4 bedroom(s), 1-3 bathroom(s), living room, dining area,
fully equipped kitchen, and often a terrace or balcony. Interiors range
from simple and comfortable to tasteful and elegant, often in traditional
Greek style. A few properties offer amenities such as telephone, color
TV, dishwasher, and washing machine.
RATES
Typical peak rates range from studios at about $600/wk to 3-4 bedroom
villas at about $2000/wk. Rates increase with amenities (e.g. a shared
pool) or for exceptional locations. Many offer flexible start dates
and 4-5 night minimum. Others require fixed start dates (e.g. Mon.-Mon.)
and one-week minimum. Off-season rates available on request.
