Famous for its scenic setting and mild climate, Lake Como is one of the most beautiful lakes of northern Italy. Charming villages dot the shores of the lake, overlooked by soaring mountains; the snowcapped peaks of Switzerland can often be seen in the distance. A winding road leads around the shore, and a ferry crosses the lake; either mode of transportation offers a delightful way to tour the lake and its resorts. Located close to the Swiss border and just an hour north of Milan, Lake Como also provides the opportunity for some wonderful day trips.

Located on the quiet, sunny east shore of the lake (6 miles north of the town of Como), the Residence Pognana offers terraced apartments that blend harmoniously into the steep hillside; steps and an elevator lead to the lake below. (The elevator does not stop at each apartment level, so access to some apartments may be by many steps; the apartments are not recommended for the very young, very old or infirm.) The Residence Pognana offers a bar and lakeside restaurant, tennis courts, a heated swimming pool, and sailing or windsurfing from its own marina. Each apartment is pleasantly furnished, with glass doors leading to either a balcony or terrace with spectacular views of the lake. Also available is a 6-bed houseboat, a unique way to experience Lake Como.
