The River Limmat flows through town on its way into the lake, forming a divider between the old town (east of the river) and the new. In the old city center, medieval guildhalls, courtyards and picturesque fountains are a backdrop to some of the city's best cafés, restaurants, and bars.

For lovers of the arts, Zurich is home to world-class museums, galleries, and theaters. It is also easy to enjoy the outdoors, with walking paths along the lakeshore, and the snow-covered Alps not far away.
