THE AREA
On Turkey's Aegean coast, lush pine forests meet turquoise seas, tiny coves, and sand or pebble beaches. In ancient times, this was the kingdom of Lycia, and Lycian rock tombs and sunken cities remain as unique archaeological treasures. Later came Crusader castles, minarets and mosques. Today, Turkey attracts increasing numbers of European visitors, but remains much less travelled than other parts of the Mediterranean.

We feature properties all along the Aegean coast, from Izmir south to Bodrum and east to Kalkan, Kas and Antalya. (All are convenient to the airport at Dalaman.) In the southwest, the attractive town of Bodrum is something of a Turkish art colony. To the east, the "Turkish Riviera" culminates in the sophisticated resort city of Antalya. All along the coast in between are small fishing villages, some popular with Europeans, others relatively undiscovered. Favorite destinations include Kas and Kalkan -- the latter village is known for its outdoor cafés and carpet bazaar. Not far away are the ruins of Xanthos, the capital of ancient Lycia.

Sailing enthusiasts might want to charter a "gulet," or Turkish boat, and explore the many small islands off the mainland.

THE PROPERTIES
We offer a wide variety of properties on Turkey's Aegean coast, including villas, cottages and apartments. Many are independent properties in villages on the coast or slightly inland, while others are clustered in small developments near the shore. The homes are very comfortable, attractive, and well maintained -- and many enjoy sea views. In traditional Turkish style, the typical villa is built around a courtyard and features overhanging wood balconies. Some offer terraces and gardens, and a few villas feature private pools. The interiors generally feature a tasteful mix of Turkish antiques and contemporary furnishings, plus colorful Turkish fabrics and wall hangings.
