Sarlat has a distinctive old quarter of great historical interest with beautifully restored Gothic and Renaissance town houses and medieval streets; it offers all shops and services, and a colourful Saturday market.
This is an ideal starting point for excursions up and down the Dordogne River, with beautiful scenery and dramatic castles lining the valley in both directions. Close by are the caves of Les Eyzies (20km) and Lascaux II with France's most famous prehistoric cave paintings. In Sarlat there are tennis courts (1km), riding stables (2km) and bicycle hire (1km). There is a leisure lake close by at Groléjac (10km) and river bathing, canoeing and fishing can be found on the Dordogne River (5km). There is a 9 hole golf course 6km away at Vitrac and an 18 hole course 26km away at Siorac-en-Périgord.
Exterior: The watermill, reached via a picturesque stone bridge, was built in the 18th century and is set in a mature garden of 2000sqm within 2 hectares of grounds. The property is dotted with little rivers and small ponds (unprotected) and an original washplace. The swimming pool is located in a spacious lawned area to the side of the house.
Interior : The interior of the Main House is full of character, with 16th century fireplaces, original beams and terracotta tile floors. It has been very tastefully restored and is very comfortable. On the ground floor are a well-equipped kitchen with a table, the living room with a large fireplace, a separate wc and a laundry room. The first floor has a corridor which gives access to a twin bedroom with an en suite bathroom with a wc, a bedroom with one set of bunk beds and a washbasin, a double bedroom with an en suite shower room, a second double bedroom and a bathroom with a wc.
The Annexe is equally well furnished and gives directly onto the swimming pool. On the ground floor are a living room with a kitchenette and a double bedroom with an en suite bathroom with a wc. On the first floor is the second double bedroom.
