Rognonas is a small market town on the Durance plain, in the very north of the Bouches du Rhône Department and just a stone’s throw from Avignon.
Its geographical location makes it an ideal starting point for exploring the Alpilles, the Camargue or the Luberon, not to mention beautiful Avignon. Numerous places of interest can be found within a 50 km radius of Rognonas and you can travel easily throughout the area, visiting not only Avignon, St Rémy, Les Baux de Provence, Arles, Tarascon, and Fontvieille ...but also Cavaillon, Fontaine de Vaucluse or the flea markets of Isle sur Sorgues,.... not to mention the Luberon, the Camargue and the Alpilles… There just isn’t time to see everything !
Rognonas was at one time essentially a farming village, but has developed rapidly, turning its energies towards business and industry. A development area was set up for industry and craft activities, and a large number of people have moved to Rognonas from nearby Avignon. Today, alongside this economic expansion, Rognonas is working to develop tourism, in partnership with neighbouring villages (such as Barbentane, Châteaurenard, Graveson and Noves). One notable example of this is the paths which have been laid out.
Strolling along charming little country lanes, surrounded by magnificent countryside, each municipality comes as a delightful discovery.
As you walk round the village, you will discover two craft workshops. Serge Breton in the Chemin du Peintre is a jewellery designer, the creator of an original collection of draped jewellery inlaid with Mirano crystal. You can also visit the paper overlay marquetry workshop, Decobox Creation, on Boulevard de Verdun. The cultural centre and the youth centre regularly organise sports and cultural events and in the summer a programme of festivities enlivens the centre of Rognonas.
