Described by Lord Byron as 'this glorious Eden', Sintra is an area of outstanding natural beauty and historic interest offering much to explore and enjoy. Suggested activities include a horse-drawn carriage ride through romantic Sintra, visits to its palaces and gardens, shopping or dining in Cascais, playing roulette at Estoril Casino, or sightseeing in Lisbon. There is a street market almost every weekend at Sintra, or another local village, selling local produce and pottery. There are also excellent golf, tennis and riding facilities nearby and several Atlantic beaches within a short driving distance.
Situated amidst the beautiful scenery of Sintra, the exquisite 16th Century Quinta Rivella, consisting of the main house and three quiet, secluded cottages within the grounds, are perfect for those looking for a peaceful holiday. The manor house has been completely restored throughout and furnished with Portuguese antiques. The cottages, furnished with a mixture of Portuguese antiques, modern pieces of art (including the owner's own paintings), local artefacts and rugs, are both charming and stylish, with lovely terraces overlooking the tranquil, shady gardens. Cottages 1 and 1A have a connecting door and can be rented as one property for a family of five. All accommodation has telephone and central heating.
The grounds at Quinta Rivella also include a small swimming pool (5.5 x 3.5m), extensive lawns and a formal garden with peacocks and swans. There is also a small gym and a sauna in the main house, which guests are welcome to use. Breakfast each morning is complimentary.
The main house, normally run as a small hotel, has been made available exclusively to our clients from May to October, meaning that the whole property can be rented together for a group of up to 20 people. Alternatively, the cottages are available for rent separately all year round.
