Castillejos is a small hamlet of Arabic origin nestling against the backdrop of the Axarquía hills, overlooking olive and almond groves down to Lake Viñuela and the Sierra de Tejeda beyond. This tranquil area still remains unspoilt by commercial tourism, yet it is less than an hour’s drive to Málaga and twenty minutes to the coast at Torre del Mar.
The hamlet comprises just twelve houses, and these six properties are all unique, having been tastefully restored and modernised over the last few years by the English owner (who also lives in the hamlet) keeping many of the original features. All the properties are furnished in a rustic style, with white-washed walls and comfortable built-in cushion seating in bright colours. Inside the houses there are often steps between rooms on both ground and first floor levels (as far as possible, these are mentioned in the house descriptions), and in three of them the staircases are open on one side. All the properties have either their own garden, terrace or balcony, and in addition there is a large communal swimming pool surrounded by an attractive balustrade, with gardens and terraces overlooking the lake and mountains.
