Cornwall; near Helston/Lizard Peninsula; walk down to beach
Polzarth House
sleeps up to: 8
It has happened to us all: walking along a sundrenched
beach, you drift aimlessly letting the cares of
the world slip away.
Suddenly, a house on a hill appears,
taking in the glorious view of seaside cliffs and
crashing waves – the perfect hideaway. You think to
yourself how wonderful it must be to dine on that
terrace with friends or to sit in front of an open fire
and watch as a dramatic winter storm approaches.
This house is in just such an idyllic coastal setting and
offers the opportunity to indulge those very dreams.
The setting of this property (whose red roof is seen in
the main picture) is indeed exceptional but it is
equally matched by the quality of its relaxed, stylish
interior. True to its origins as a ‘beach house’, it is
decorated in a simple Scandinavian style, taking full
advantage of the strong south-facing light and, of
course, the outstanding sea views. The large, openplan
sitting room has comfortable sofas and chairs,
perfect for reading a book or watching the sunset.
The small but well-fitted kitchen and the abundance
of bathrooms (2 bathrooms & 1 shower room) are all

of a very high standard. Surrounding the house,
there are excellent terraces for sunbathing or dining,
and pathways in the garden lead down to the beach.
This corner of Cornwall and the Lizard Coast is deservedly
popular in the summer, and blissfully peaceful
in the off-season. The beach below the house is
generally quiet as it has a strong riptide, but there are a
number of gentle swimming beaches within easy reach
of the house (the nearest being just one mile away).
The South-West Coastal Path runs immediately behind
the house, and leads to miles of cliff-side walks.
There are ancient pubs in the charming port of Porthleven
nearby, although there is a popular pub with
food within a few minutes walk. Further afield, guests
will enjoy visiting the superb Tate Gallery at St Ives,
or St Michael’s Mount in Marazion.
