On arrival to the castle you will find an impressive Victorian castle with central tower with a welcoming blue door.
Access is in fact, via the side, which is the authentic 15th century tower, with its separate entrance.
On offer is the whole of the original tower and part of the castle, which is cleverly partitioned, whilst the other section is occupied by the original descendents of the family who built the tower. A guided historical tour can be arranged as part of the stay.
On entering, is an original vaulted room, which takes you to the kitchen and elegant dining room, which can seat up to 16 adults. Then a grand staircase takes you to the floor above, and at a mezzanine level, can be found the first bedroom, with a feature bath in the room.
On the first floor, is the large drawing room with open fire with exceptionally tall windows, ensuring great light in this room. The main feature bedroom, set on a raised platform above the room, centrally positioned in the castle with views through the stained glass windows, is an unforgettable experience.
The rest of the bedrooms and bathrooms are on this level or on the two floors above. These bedrooms are all named after historical characters who have either visited the castle or are connected to the family, including King Charles I who visited in 1648 and William Wallace.
With a designated area of grounds allocated to residents, it is set in private grounds, with a trout fishery, which is open to the public, within walking distance. A stay here is ideal for those looking for a genuine authentic castle experience for a family holiday or occasion, for a week or weekend.
