At the far end of the village and with lovely sea views over the olive groves, this well furnished and designed family house stands in its own enclosed gardens with pretty flowers and a good selection of herbs, as well as shady trees and a sheltered purpose built barbecue area.
Inside, separated by the entrance hall, is a modern well equipped kitchen/dining room, plus a spacious and comfortable living room complete with a large brick fireplace and patio doors to the terrace.
At first floor level and reached by a narrow wooden staircase are two twin bedrooms with sloping pine ceilings, French windows and wonderful sea views. There's a shower room off the first floor landing and a second one downstairs off the entrance hall.
The kitchen has a convenient window to the side that gives access to the barbecue area. To the rear of the garden is a gate with a few steps leading down into Skevos's olive grove where you will find your vegetable patch...
Hidden away on the south coast between Agia Galini and Moni Preveli and a good 2 and a half hours drive from Chania Airport, the tiny hamlet of Agia Paraskevi, stands high on the hillside looking out over the Lybian Sea. Virtually abandoned for 25 years, the village has over the past decade been slowly restored and brought back to life and now provides the setting for a unique holiday experience and the ultimate place to unwind! Agia Paraskevi has two churches and a dozen houses, dotted haphazardly over a wide area of the hillside demarcated by rocky bluffs and olive groves sloping downwards towards the sea.
All the houses are built in traditional style from local stone and wood, with terracotta tiled roofs, but all are different shapes and sizes and have their own particular character, based on the lie of the land and the vision of their individual owners! The restoration work includes a taverna cum mini-market, conveniently located on the Village Square.

Local Information: The sandy Ligres beach with its’ own small taverna, is just 5 minutes drive away and there’s an excellent fish taverna on the little harbour in Agia Fotini, a little more than 15 minutes drive, via the village of Kerames, where there’s also a taverna and a small mini market. Beyond Ligres beach to the east, are the beaches of Trio Petra and Agios Pavlos, approx. 20 - 25 minutes drive, partly on un-metalled roads.
All the beaches on this stretch of the south coast are long and sandy and relatively quiet even in high season, with a good half dozen strategically placed tavernas. For banks, shops and a little more civilisation, the hill town of Spili, with its’ handsome Venetian fountains, is a good 40 minutes drive. N.B. Car hire is obviously essential and although there is now a metalled road to Agia Paraskevi and the nearby beach at Ligres we do recommend hiring a 4-wheel drive vehicle if you wish to comfortably explore this area of the south coast.
Perfect peace and quiet : Apart from the very occasional passing car, Agia Paraskevi is amazingly peaceful and by day you can clearly hear the tinkling of goat bells on the hillside a kilometre away. By night it’s even quieter and the sound of silence is almost tangible, save for the occasional soft hoot of a Skops Owl, or the distant murmur of the sea breaking on Ligres beach, 2km away down the hill. With no large villages let alone towns nearby, the sky at night is a further revelation with a vast and dazzling canopy of stars, seemingly close enough to touch, like baubles on a cosmic Christmas Tree.
