Helford House
sleeps up to: 10 + 2
Houses overlooking water have a universal appeal, and it seems to come from their almost magical ability to enhance any mood – they can be exhilarating as you wake in the morning to the sun reflecting off the water, they can be restful on a lazy afternoon, or they can be the perfect backdrop for a romantic evening. Even storms seem more dramatic in a waterside setting. For children they provide an endless source of entertainment and for the sportsman they offer the opportunity for sailing, fishing and windsurfing. Where better to enjoy these delights than this superb house, with its spectacular setting on the northern banks of the Helford River.

This fine home is reached via a quiet, no-through road which drops down through its own private sub-tropical gardens to the house. It was built in the 1920’s for a wellknown yachtsman, and is presently decorated in a casual, uncluttered style ideally suited for a family. The kitchen/ breakfast room – always the centre of family life – is large & well-equipped, and the bedrooms are simple, attractive & comfortable.
Outside, there is a large stone terrace with table & chairs offering exceptional views down the river, as well as a large lawned area and pathways which lead you to hidden ‘wild’ areas with small ponds and giant specimen plants. By the river’s edge is a fine stone-built boathouse with a good-sized terrace– perfect for sunbathing.

Accommodation: Steps lead up to the large front terrace with table & chairs, overlooking the Helford River. Entrance door leads to a spacious Entrance Hall/Dining Hall with table to seat 8 maximum. Spacious Sitting Room with large picture windows and window seats overlooking the Helford River. Guest Cloakroom.
From the other side of the dining hall is a modern fully fitted Kitchen/Breakfast Room (shown overleaf) with large breakfast table to seat 9, Aga & ceramic hob.
A rear lobby leads to a Utility Room/Laundry and has a door which leads via steps to the parking area. Also in the lobby is the door to ‘The Cabin’ which is reached via narrow steps and consists of a double bed and a shower room – ideally suited for staff.

This part of Cornwall is well-known as a mecca for sailing and this is clear from the many yachts bobbing at anchor. Moorings can be made available for those bringing their own boats, or alternatively we can help you arrange a charter. Sea fishing and sailing can both be arranged and there is a qualified diving centre in Falmouth. Golf is at Falmouth with a championship course at St. Austell. Falmouth, with its shores defended by the impressive Pendennis Castle, is surrounded by the beautiful scenery and little pubs that make up the area of the Helford River and Lizard peninsula. This is a wonderful part of Cornwall, full of sandy beaches and cliffside walks – as well as a history full of stories about pirates & smugglers. Further afield, Lands End, St Michael’s Mount and Penzance are all destinations worth a visit – even day trips to the Scilly Isles, which are about 60 miles away. Fanned by the sub-tropical air of the Gulf Stream, Cornwall is famous for its many beautiful and exotic gardens such as Heligan, Glendurgan and Trebah – as well as the fantastic Eden Project.

NOTE: The owner’s have asked guests to respect the fact that Bar House is a non-smoking house.
