An enchanting château of great charm and authenticity, this is a listed 17th century monument which has remained in the same family for the past 300 years. The surrender of Cherbourg between General Collins and General von Schlieben, was signed on 26 June 1944 in the halls of the château. It is located at the heart of the Cotentin region, close to sandy beaches, notably at Quinéville to the east (17km) and at Carteret to the west (25km). Cherbourg is just 22km to the north and you can easily reach Bayeux (65km) via the motorway 2.5km away.
The closest village (4km) offers all shops and services, and a railway station that will take you to Paris direct. It boasts two museums, many "hôtels particuliers" (of which two can be visited), and a music festival in August. The landing beaches are close by (20 minutes' drive), as well as the war museum at Ste-Mère-l'Eglise (15km).
There is a public tennis court nearby (600m), a 9 hole golf course at Quinéville (15km) and an 18 hole golf course at Agon-Coutainville (60km). Horse riding is possible at Brix (8km), and bicycle hire at Valognes.
With origins dating back to the Gallo-Roman period, this estate is the result of centuries of construction and modification with an overall 17th century touch. It is set in a huge park of 6 hectares concealing numerous "follies", and featuring a chapel, a small scale 19th century manor house (child size), a covered games room, swings and a sandpit. The park is surrounded by cultivated fields and apple groves belonging to the property. The gardener (and his friendly dog) live on the grounds. The owners occasionally occupy a wing of the château without impinging on clients' privacy. A stream runs through the grounds and there is a swimming pool with an automatic cover which is set in an enclosed garden.
The interior is beautifully furnished with period pieces and antiques in keeping with the style of the building. The owner, an architect, has designed some of the furnishings.
On the ground floor are a large well-equipped kitchen, a spacious dining room (seats up to 24 persons), a billiards room (full size and children's) and two separate wcs.
