France (1071) Provence (235) St. Remy (25)
St Remy de Provence ; 2 miles to town
Villa Reminaise
sleeps up to: 8
You leave ST Rémy de Provence by a small road winding along the hedges towards the hills? You are greeted on your left by an olive grove and neatly lined up lavenders.
You can just see the Mas amongst flowers and greenery. There is a shaded terrace along the south side of the house facing the Alpilles.

A number of doors of the house open up onto this terrace, including the kitchen door that is used as the main entrance.
In front of the terrace lies part of the garden that runs to the foot of the hills.
On the right a large tree gives shade and cool shelter to a glass gazebo used as a summer sitting area.
A little further up a stone terrace overlooks the whole of the property. A fountain gurgles in a corner and the sound of the cicadas living in the nearby pine trees gives its rhythm to life in Provence, here and elsewhere.

The house is made up of many spaces and levels following on to each other. You get from one terrace to another terrace and, so it seems, from one small house to another small house by a very ingenious internal flow. The terraces are so numerous that it enables the occupants to cohabit without any interference, and the desire for privacy of the owner was such that he built in independent access to each of the house?s room. The garden follows in the same pattern?sometimes in the French style and sometimes in the English style; always charming and harmonious? All is balance between the water of the ornamental pond, the Tuscany ?like cypresses and the mulberry tree standing guard over the house!

The kitchen is not only beautiful, it is eminently practical. Extremely well equipped with clever storage hidden behind ochre coloured original materials, it is the heart of the house. The Piano has a gas hob and large gas oven. There is an extra electric oven, Microwave, coffee machine, dishwasher, American fridge and an island unit used as a worktop and bar with high stools. The floor is black marble tiles. The ceiling is wooden and the walls painted.
Double doors lead off the kitchen directly into a dining room that gives access to a terrace through a glass door. There is a large table fit for numerous guests and designer wicker armchairs, the colour scheme is natural shades of greyish browns and beige. The décor is interesting and unusual. This is a very cosy room where meals are taken amidst comfortable surroundings. The kitchen and dining room both open onto a spacious hallway which leads to various parts of the house including the lounge area. From the lounge you reach the south facing terrace through a glass door.
This very spacious lounge features terracotta flooring and high wood beamed ceiling. On the higher side stands a fantastic piece of furniture displaying unusual artefacts. There is a large multicoloured ceramic tile table. Provision has been made for a ?contemporary? corner by a bay window and from an original designer armchair one can read or dream overlooking the garden which gently slopes towards an ornamental pond and its water lilies surrounded by box trees.

In the lower side of the lounge area there are antique pieces of furniture, a fireplace and armchairs on both sides of a sofa upholstered in English fabric. French windows lead to the swimming pool area next to a terrace sheltered by a flowered pergola furnished with comfortable quality wooden armchairs and table.
Slightly lower down you can reach the library through some steps, this room also has its own entrance to an east facing terrace and rockery. The library has blond wood panelling and is very light and comfortable. Books, engravings, sketches and drawings are everywhere on the walls providing ideal material for the mind to travel and enjoy the magic of words and shapes, creating a welcome interlude from the outside world. A large cosy sofa placed in front of a beautiful fireplace gives the final touch to the sense of genuine lifestyle generated by the room.
Close to the library there is a charming and little bedroom, prettily decorated in a discreetly refined style. The walls are upholstered in pastel coloured fabrics and there is a lovely period style single bed. The bedroom is en-suite with wash basin, bath and W.C. A glass door opens onto a small terrace and steps leading on to the north facing garden.

A first staircase leads to an independent bedroom: the master bedroom. There are twin beds joined together, numerous storage facilities and a large bathroom en suite with a washbasin, bath and W.C. This bedroom offers a panoramic view of the whole of the garden, the olive grove and the hills. A glass door opens onto to a small terrace and to the garden which is reached by a hidden staircase leading to the south façade of the house, near the terrace and swimming pool.

A second staircase with rope carpeting will take us up to two bedrooms on the first floor.
On the right a guest bedroom (it is the only room in the house without direct outside access) with a 1.40m bed. This bedroom offers a lovely view over the Alpilles mountain range. There is a separate bathroom on the other side of the landing with bath and W.C.
A little further along the ? Salon? bedroom with its very dramatic red colour scheme has twin beds joined together and an en suite bathroom with 2 washbasins, bath and W.C. There is access onto a small west facing terrace by a glass door and steps lost in greenery and foliage that lead to the garden on the left hand side of the house.

Common parts: A laundry room situated on the side of the house also has independent access and is fitted with sink, washing machine and dryer. There are numerous storage facilities.

Down from the laundry room and away from the rest of the house, on the west side, there is a bedroom with access through a wide glass pane door. This is the ?Galerie? bedroom decorated in soft colours of grey, off white and beige. There is a 1.60m double bed and a large and pretty shower room en suite with wash basin and W.C. (There is also a spare child?s bed in this room).

The Mas of the Alpilles area all give out sensations of power and softness. They are the result of a subtle and secret mixture between the mineral and vegetal elements, both exciting and appeasing but keen never to disturb the harmony, the peace and sensual pleasure of the area.
