Villa Didios is one of the largest and grandest houses in the old style, situated in the beautiful, quiet residential area stretching around to the Old Harbor of Spetses. Set directly overlooking the sea, it has a panoramic view of the Straits of Spetses and Mt. Didyma on the mainland opposite. A large terrace extends along the front of the house from where the magnificent views of the sea can be enjoyed.
The garden is beautiful, filled with pomegranate trees, lemons, tangerines, cypress and almonds. Jasmine and plumbago grow up the walls and there are pots of basil, gardenias, roses, lilies and geraniums lining the path up to the house, which is mosaic-tiled in the traditional style using black and white pebbles from the beaches.
Inside, it is the classic Venetian style that prevails, with painted ceilings, meticulously restored by specialist craftsmen, and walls decorated with original art nouveau stencilling. Modern comfort, however, has not been overlooked, and there are new and very comfortable beds, and an extensively refurbished kitchen.
The rooms are light and spacious with many windows, several with sea views. There are two outdoor dining areas, one on the terrace, and the other in the garden at a huge marble table under a pergola.
There is good swimming below the house, and two beaches within five minutes walk. Other beaches can be reached by boat – something that the very competent housekeeper can organise in advance. She is an invaluable asset to the villa, speaking perfect English, and, in the grand tradition of Gerald Durrell’s Spiro, can ‘fix’ anything!

DISTANCES
A very frequent service of hydrofoils and catamarans run between the ports of Zea or Pireaus in Athens (20 or 60 minutes drive from the airport, depending on which airport you arrive at) and Spetses.
