The town lies on the south west Mediterranean coast of Turkey, in the Mugla province. It is 25 kms from Dalaman International Airport, 2 hours from Marmaris and 1 ½ hours from Fetihye.
It is a perfect holiday destination for even the most discerning traveller, young or old offering history, culture, wildlife ,stunning scenery, deserted beaches and coves and a base to explore the many attractions this region has to offer.
Day trips or multi stay trips can be arranged to the famous 'rock city' of Cappodocia, the salt flats of Pamukkale or the biblical area of Ephesus. Gullet stays can also be arranged around the stunning coastline where your captain and crew will cater for your every need.
THe town is set on the river, opposite the famous 3000 B.C. rock tombs and ancient city of Caunos. At one end of the river is lake Koycegiz . The broad delta opens onto the beautiful 5 km sandbank separating the crystal clear shallow waters of the Mediterranean from the idyllic labyrinth of reed beds and waterways. The reed beds are 2.5 to 3 metres high and as well as preventing odours, erosion and pollution, are home to a variety of wildlife species including stripe neck terrapins and turtles, fresh water fish and the spectacularly coloured kingfishers.
At the boat end of Iztuzu beach you will find a few sun beds and shades, a small bar offering light snacks and cold drinks and a local lady rolling traditional pancakes. At the Dolmus end, similar amenities are available as well as the welcoming shelter of pine trees.
Building proposals on this unspoilt stretch of beach were halted in 1985 when famous conservationist, David Belamy led a successful worldwide campaign to prevent development to enable protection of the Loggerhead sea turtle nesting sites. Walk 300m from either end of the beach and you will be completely alone. This whole area is now deemed environmentally protected and a wildlife sanctuary.
There are no high rise buildings in the town, but simply villas, small family run hotels and local housing that blends into the beautiful landscape of mountains and cotton fields around it. The lush greenery and abundance of fig, banana, pomegranate and citrus fruits trees that grow everywhere are supplied by artesian water.
Villa Zanidia lies on a quiet country road, 10 minutes walk from the centre of the town.
This brand new villa, built in 2003, is beautifully furnished with local handmade furniture and high quality appliances in the well equipped kitchen, which include washing machine, full size oven and fridge freezer. The villa is one of four which share the magnificent 50 m pool with each villa having their own semi-circular area in which to cool off.
The panoramic views from Zanidia are stunning both from the terrace and first floor bedroom balconies. The villa has a very private part-covered terrace which is not overlooked by any of the neighbouring properties, from where you can eat 'al fresco' or sunbathe.
There is 1 double bedroom and 1 twin bedroom on the first floor, both with balconies and ceiling fans and one very spacious attic twin room, with free standing fan, with wonderful views to both back and front aspects of the mountains. There are two shower rooms, located on the first floor and on the ground floor as well as a spacious lounge off the kitchen.
The villa owners are fitting air conditioning for the 2005 season.
