Built at the water's edge on the Percuil River, adjacent to a wood owned by the National Trust, the views from the garden and terrace of Westward are stunning, surrounded by water.
There are steps to the beach from the garden through a gate which can be locked for safety. You can look across to the picturesque harbour of St Mawes or watch the boats sailing from the nearby boatyard. In the summer a dinghy sailing, windsurfing and canoeing school usually operates from the beach below the house. Hidden away at the end of a small road, this detached house is wonderfully peaceful with only two other houses nearby, one sharing the access drive. The balcony has a pretty water feature at one end (the pond has a grid to protect children), overlooking a level lawn that is fully fenced from the water beyond.
The accommodation is reversed, although on the first floor the spacious living-room, one double bedroom and a shower-room are accessed from the front door, as the house is built into the side of a hill. There is a cosy wood-burner in the living-room, which has bright rugs, comfortable upholstery and doors onto the balcony. The kitchen-area is fully fitted with wooden cupboards and granite worktops separating it from the dining-area. Steps lead down from the hallway to another sitting-room (with access to a terrace and the garden) and to the remaining three bedrooms, bathroom and shower-room.
There is a good choice of restaurants, shops and art galleries in St Mawes, and The Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project are all a short drive away. The coastal footpath is nearby and the beautiful countryside of The Roseland peninsula is on your doorstep. Alternatively, you can cross the Fal on the King Harry Ferry to the National Trust gardens and craft gallery at Trelissick. Parking is provided for two cars; additional parking is available at the nearby National Trust car park (with honesty-box) at the top of the drive.
