Half a millennium of history is present in this late medieval tower house, now an oasis of warmth and tranquillity. Liscannor flags, turf-burning fireplaces, ancient oak, and sympathetic furnishings are all evidence of a careful and loving restoration, which has not compromised the authenticity of this remarkable building.
There are fine views across the amazing landscape of the Burren.
Please note: the wonderful curving stone staircase would not suit very small children or those with walking disabilities.
Accommodation:
6 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms accommodating up to eight guests.
Well-equipped kitchen and dining area on ground floor. Guest WC. Stone spiral steps lead to the other rooms, with the impressive Great Hall (perfect for dining) and a second small kitchen on the top level. Arrangements can be made to have dinner prepared by local chefs.
Bedrooms: Two large double rooms, both with king size beds (one with a waterbed) is en suite. Two small twin rooms. Two bathrooms (with showers, not baths). Whilst the water supply will cope with several showers at a time guests may need to stagger the times of ablutions!
In addition to central heating, turf burning stoves provide extra heating for the large rooms.
Amenities in the area
The Burren is an important geological and botanical nature preserve as well as a bird sanctuary and archaeological paradise. Guided tours can be organised. Hiking, cycling, pony-trekking and angling on the nearby lakes. Traditional Irish music in pubs of the area. Good choice of restaurants. There is also a wonderful local guide who may drop by on the first day and he is available for guided tours of the burren.
