Perched proudly on the hillside, high above the terracotta roof tops of Kalives, Villa Thisanis has panoramic views of the mountains and the sea that would take a dozen postcards to describe adequately and provides very comfortable accommodation for a good sized party, with bags of space and character.
The accommodation is on 3 levels with a pronounced Scandinavian flavour of pine floors and ceilings contrasting with walls faced with local stone work.
The first floor bedrooms have nautical-style wood panelling and there are numerous strategically placed patios and balconies, all supplied with patio furniture so you can relax and enjoy the spectacular views from your own favourite vantage point.

On the ground floor: With huge terraces to both the front and rear, the spacious open plan living area has a large dining table comfortably seating up to 8 persons, with a wood panelled breakfast bar separating the well appointed kitchen, with full electric cooker, fridge freezer and plenty of work surfaces. Next to the kitchen is a small tiled shower room with WC and wash hand basin, whilst to the rear of the living room is a cosy sitting area with sofa, easy chairs and coffee table. Tucked away in the opposite corner is a further small dining table for the younger members of the party, with nearby, a door to an attractive twin bedroom with direct access to both the front and rear terraces.
There is a pine staircase: From the living area to a spacious first floor landing complete with a further small sofa, easy chair and coffee table. Off the landing are doors to a well appointed full bathroom complete with WC, wash hand basin and bidet, plus the two nautical style twin bedrooms each with their own generous private balconies. From the landing, a further flight of stairs bends around a corner and then leads directly (no door) into a cosy and romantic double bedded room in the eaves, with a 1.5m door to its own tiny balcony. We call this the room with a view and to find out why, just open the windows above the bed! By car, the circuitous track down to the village and the adjoining beach is approximately 700 metres but for fitter members of the party, a five minute walk via a choice of two footpaths is the more direct alternative, although the return journey will naturally require more time and willpower!
18 km east of Chania and strung along the edge of Souda Bay, Kalives is still very much a Greek village that has taken tourism in its stride and the bustling main street reflects the status quo with local shops, mini markets, tavernas and cafes. There's a pretty little river which huge trout are rumoured to inhabit and where small plump ducks encourage children to feed them. Sheltered by the headland just to the east of the village is an excellent sandy beach with convenient cantinas selling cool drinks for sunbathers, whilst pedaloes and water skiing are readily available for the more energetic. Just back from the main thoroughfare in a warren of narrow streets tucked into the hillside, the locals go about their daily life in time honoured fashion and if you venture into the nearby countryside, you will discover numerous tiny villages in idyllic rural settings, sublimely unaffected by tourism.
