Chalet Grebais

Grebais is a magnificent detached chalet on the opposite side of the road from a hamlet, situated halfway between Val d'Isere town centre and Le Fornet. There is a new high-speed chairlift only 400m from the chalet door giving very quick acess to the slopes. Catered chalet Grebais is a beautiful, restored farmhouse extending over three floors and commanding wonderful views of Val d'Isere and the Olympic downhill run, from the huge picture window in the lounge and dining room. This is a most comfortable and spacious catered chalet with the dining room and upstairs lounge connected by a lovely winding open staircase. There are five bedrooms all of completely different character (and priced accordingly). From the large master bedroom with en-suite facilities (room 4) to the quaint twin room on the top floor (room 5) with a five foot high access door. The entrance to the chalet is remarkable - an amazing, underground, slate stairway leading directly from the roadway up into the chalet. This has been described by journalists and previous guests as giving a "James Bond" feel to the chalet. Another interesting feature of this catered chalet is that it boasts its own chapel adjacent to the main building. There is easy access to the skiing and apres skiing yet there is also a great feeling of privacy and of "being in the mountains". Entrance hall with ski lockers. 50m underground stairway. Ground Floor: Kitchen, large dining room, separate w.c. Bedroom 1 : Double with en-suite Bedroom 2 : Three single built in beds. Bedroom 3 : Three single built in beds. Bedrooms 2 & 3 share a shower room & separate w.c. First Floor: Large lounge with open fire & balcony. Bedroom 4: Large twin bedroom with en-suite. Separate w.c. Second Floor: Bedroom 5 : Twin bedroom with bathroom (separate w.c. on first floor) NB: Bedroom 5 has low access (5'6") & sloping ceiling. Staircases leading to firs & second floor are open. This chalet is not suitable for young children. Chalet staff live out. Please wear indoor shoes in the chalet. The peroperty is in a small, pretty hamlet 1km from the centre of Val d'Isere, which had a brand new, 6 man, high speed chairlift installed for the 2005/2006 winter season. It is also linked to the town centre by the well known Train Rouge. This is the bus service that enables you to travel free between Solaise, La Daille and Le Fornet - the 3 ski areas of Val d'Isere. Buses run from 0830 hours until 0135 hours. Chalet Grebais is situated 300m from a bus stop and will be 400m from the new chairlift. SKIING FROM THE CHALET From catered chalet Grebais you have 2 options at the beginning of your skiing or snowboarding day. You can either walk about 400m to the brand new Laisinant Express chairlift or you can take the free Train Rouge bus service which will take you directly to the nursery slopes and main lifts of Solaise/Bellvarde in approx. 5 mins., or in the other direction 3 mins. to the cable at Le Fornet. The bus stop is situated about 300m from the chalet, although last season most bus drivers were happy to stop directly outside the chalet itself. It is also possible, snow conditions permitting, to leave the chalet on skis on the gently inclined cross country track and skate to the nursery slopes, a journey of approximately 10 minutes. At the end of the day it is possible to ski down the blue 'L' piste or the red 'Mattis' run to within 400 m of the chalet.
