At the Villa Lethos you will literally LIVE among the locals -The Villa is ideally situated on the village edge which has its own quality restaurants & tavernas is a 10 minute walk or 3 minute drive away and is perfectly located for the local beaches, restaurants Tavernas. The family seaside resort of Almirida with its blue flag beaches lined with restaurants serving cuisine to suit all tastes is just a 5 minute drive away. The Venetian city of Chania is just a 20 minute drive from the Villa Lethos. Kalives is a small fishing village that has grown into a town in its own right. However it still has but one street running the length of the town. The atmosphere is very friendly (you will find that this is typical all over Crete) with many fine tavernas, kafenions, and night spots. And of course three long and beautiful beaches. Probably the most picturesque area of Kalives, and the subject of many postcard photos, is its river flowing in the sea. IN THIS AREA - Georgioupolis is a very lively summer resort that, like Almerida, is very quiet in the winter. The town is very picturesque where the river flows into the sea. Georgioupolis offers most services including banks, post office, many tavernas, cafés, and even a disco. Long sandy beaches are just a short walk from the town. Not far from Georgioupolis is the charming Kournas Lake, Crete-s only lake. Boating and picnic sites make Kournas very popular in the summer. From Georgioupolis, Rethymnon can be reached within 20 minutes and Chania in 40 minutes. Rethymnon, about one hour's drive from Chania, is the third largest city on Crete. It is connected to Chania by an excellent highway and is served by a daily ferry to and from Athens. The city also has a restored Venetian fort and harbour. Zorba the Greek was filmed here in the late 1960s and nearly all the village participated. In the kafenions one can still hear villagers still make their own case for which of them was the best dancer! One kafenion even remains as an homage to Anthony Quinn and Alexis Zorbas. The village is home to a number of traditional craftsmen as well as glass blowers. There is a fine new taverna situated in the old village school and a small secluded bay down a quite step hill for private swimming. The village is 4 km drive from Kokkino Chorio and Almerida a further 2 km. Beaches & Restaurants: just 15mins walk away The Villa Lethos is only a short drive away from Chania - once the Island capital. With its famous Venetian harbour, quayside Bars and Restaurants, what better place to relax and watch the world go by. what better place to relax and watch the world go by.
