Located in a beautiful 17th Century building on the Ile Saint Louis, on the banks of the Seine River, in a small and very quiet street, and right next to the lively "rue Saint-Louis en l'Ile" with stores, boutiques, cafes, and restaurants.
The building has a magnificient entrance with old cobblestones. The
apartment has old French oak floors and is tastefully furnished with
antics (Henri II dressers, game and round tables Regency table, Louis
XVI desk and game table, Napoleon dresser). It has been completly
remodeled in May 2001!
Thanks to its over 3 feet thick walls, the apartment keeps cool during
Summer. The hallway opens up to four doors: the door on the right is
the bathroom (with a combination shower/tub, a sink, a washer and a
dryer and a toilet.)
The door in the middle is the dining-room and the kitchen (the kitchen
looks onto the dining-room and is equipped with a dishwasher, burners,
oven, micro-wave oven, fridge and toaster, coffee-machine, as well as
all necessary kitchen ustensils). The dining-room has a table and 6
chairs, telephone/answering machine.
The door on the left is the living-room and has two single-beds acting
as sofas, a coffee-table, dresser, armchair, desk, fireplace, stereo-CD player, and cable TV (CNN, BBC news, Euronews, cinema,etc.). High
speed Internet DSL connection is available at an extra cost ($25/week).Depending on sleeping arrangements, it can be used as a second bedroom. The River is so close that you could nearly listen to the water running along, and, as in the old time, salute the captains of the barges!
The bedroom is the last door and has a bed for two guests, a very
large dresser, and is looking onto the splendid cobblestones courtyard. The apartment comfortably sleeps 4 guests and is bright and quiet.
Ile St. Louis - perhaps the most special spot in the most special city in the world - is only six blocks long and two blocks wide. This quaint little island, with no subway stop, is an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Three metro lines however, can easily be reached by crossing the appropriate bridge to the Left or Right Banks. You'll be one of a community of about 6,000 surrounded by 16th and 17th century mansions, with their beautiful stone-paved courtyards; fashionable shops, and terrific restaurants.
