Delphini Villa - a spacious, airy house that accommodates up to 6 people, on the side of the hill at the back of Hydra Town. Panoramic views of the mountains and down to the harbour, extending across the sea to the Peloponnese. Delphini Villa is hig uph but it's not an arduous climb. Level road as far as the Greco and then a not too steep set of paths to zigzag up for the last bit to the lower terrace ...
Very sensibly furnished to allow a combination of sleeping arrangements. One double bedroom (2 persons) on the swimming pool level, master double bedroom (2 persons) on the first floor plus 3 double futon beds with screens in the main living room. Maximum of 6 persons in the house even though there are beds for more
The house is multi-levelled and has entrances on all three levels. The house is fairly new and of solid stone construction with lots of wooden beams. Floors are a variety of natural stone tiles and flags. The lowest level is self-contained and consists of a large double bedroom with en-suite shower room. This room opens onto the swimming pool terrace. The pool is not available during the winter season. From the middle terrace you gain access to the main house. There is a separate WC to the left of the front door and the master bedroom is to the right
The Master Bedroom has a large double bed that is dwarfed by the size of this light and airy room. Plenty of cupboard space, TV, open wood burning fire-place and a small terrace accessed by double doors either side of the fireplace.
The main bathroom is off the same inner hall as the master bedroom and it too opens onto the small terrace that leads from the master bedroom. The bathroom is a particularly large room with lots of light.
The main living room can be accessed from the hall off the middle terrace or it has separate access from the top terrace. This room has a very lofty feel to it. There are three futon sofa/beds and a large fire-place. Stairs lead up to the kitchen and dining area. At the back of the living room there is a tiny private patio with lots of greenery...
Screens in the living room can be used to partition the room to convert one end of it into a third double sleeping area. The Futon sofas pull out easily into comfortable double beds. As you can see from the adjacent photo it is possible to make this area quite private. There is another screen that can be used as well if even more privacy is required. Alternatively it would be possible to have two sleeping areas in the living room with a single person at either end, each on a double futon, separated by the screens
From the living room, stairs give access to the upper level of the house. The kitchen is compact and has a large larder fridge with freezer compartment, electric oven and hob and plenty of crockery and cutlery. There is a large solid wood table plus a breakfast bar if you prefer eating indoors ...
From the kitchen you walk along a short gallery to gain access to the upper terrace. Most of the length of the gallery is used as a breakfast bar and the far end is set up as a study area .
The upper terrace offer magnificent views on three sides. You have the views of Hydra Port and the sea with the Peloponnese in the distance. Then either side you have mountain scenery. It's possible to sit for hours on this terrace simply watching Hydra life and all it's goings on. The children way down in the sports arena, the nuns and priests making their way back and forth from the monastery, the antics of the donkeys and high on the hills the goats. Definitely bring you sketch pad!
There is a separate double bedroom on the first floor of dolphin house. It has a large, new shower room and plenty of space, the bedroom opens out onto the pool terrace.
The pool at the Delphini House is new and by Hydra standards, about as large as they come!
