Normandy- 1kms to village, Honfleur 11km /Deauville 14km
Ferme Tilleul
sleeps up to: 12
Situated on a hill and commanding idyllic views over the surrounding undulating countryside, this beautifully renovated farmhouse dates back to the late 18th century.
It is set in 10 acres of grounds consisting of wide open spaces and including an organic vegetable garden for clients' use. It is located on the edge of a small village.
The closest selection of shops is in Honfleur (11km), the oldest recorded town in France, with its beautiful picturesque harbour, and Satie and Boudin (the father of Impressionism) museums.
There is a bakery (grocer's/bar with fresh bread daily) just 1km away and many markets nearby including a daily market a short drive away. The closest supermarket is at 3km.
The property is one hour from Caen, 30 minutes from Le Havre, and 20 minutes from the beautiful sandy beaches at Deauville and Trouville (14km), where there is also a rocky beach well worth exploring with children. There is a range of good restaurants close by, and a great choice of sports and activities: sailing (school at Trouville), horse riding, Thalassotherapie and casino in Deauville, many golf courses with the closest 18 hole course 5 minutes' away by car, free access to a tennis court within walking distance, and bicycle hire at Honfleur.
Cider tasting can be enjoyed down the road, and Calvados tasting a short drive from the house at the 17th century Château de Breuil. Calvados is steeped in history, with over 800 listed historic monuments, and its architecture of half-timbered barns and 1920s villas and casinos is well worth discovering. Both the Bayeux tapestries and Monet's gardens at Giverny are 1.5hrs away, and Rouen and the spectacular basilica at Lisieux are within half an hour's drive. The landing beaches are an hour away. Cherbourg's underwater exploration centre with its impressive aquarium is a must for children.
The interior of the main house has been carefully and caringly restored and decorated to retain its original style, combining a tasteful combination of antiques and modern furniture. The entire house is very bright and welcoming with a spacious living room to one side and a large beautifully equipped kitchen (with Aga) which serves as a comfortable dining room. Also on the ground floor are a laundry room and a separate wc.
On the first floor are a double bedroom with an en suite shower room with a wc, a bathroom with a separate shower unit and a wc, another double bedroom through which a bedroom with a set of bunk beds is reached, and a single bedroom with an additional pull-out single mattress. The second floor is a huge converted attic space consisting of a double bed in the central area, a bath and washbasin to one side, and a TV and video area. Care must be taken with children as the window ledges are quite low.
