Argüero is a farming village scattered on the coastal plain east of Gijón; it has a small supermarket and several bar/restaurants. The local beach, down an unmade track, is small and pebbly; sandy beaches are within a short drive. Tazones (8km), a picturesque old port, has excellent fish restaurants, Villaviciosa (12 kms) has good shops and a weekly market, and Gijón has a charming old centre, good town beaches and all facilities. This is an excellent location for exploring Asturias, both along the coast and into the interior, where Oviedo and the Picos de Europa mountains are within easy striking distance
