This small village in the beautiful Desfiladero (gorge) de los Beyos is some 11 kms south of Cangas de Onis, towards the western end of the Picos de Europa. The richly-wooded countryside is excellent for walking, while the rivers Sella and Ponga provide possibilities for salmon and trout fishing, swimming and canoeing. It is a very unspoilt and tranquil corner and well located for exploring both inland – to the mountains, to Covadonga, or Oviedo – and to the coast. The seaside resort of Ribadesella is 35 kms away. Sames is served by mobile shops and has a bar; there are shops and restaurants in nearby villages.
